Community Supported Agriculture

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and the idea is just that — local eaters buying vegetables from their local farmer, local farmers growing food for their community.

To be specific, a CSA is a structured relationship between the community member (customer) and the farmer in which the member purchases, and then over the course of the season receives, a "share" of the farm's harvest.

To support the farmer as they prepare for the season ahead, the customer prepays for this share before the farm season has begun. This pre-payment provides the farmer with both financial means to start the season and a committed customer base. [Boy do we love our CSA members!]

Traditionally, the "share" comes to the customer in the form of a weekly box of mixed seasonal vegetables selected and packed by the farmer. Over the years however, farms have put their own personal spin on the CSA model and we are no exception.

Our CSA comes with a lot of flexibility and community.

CSA as Farm Credit

Our CSA share comes in the form of farm credit – specifically, a member account which functions like a gift card. Your credit and spending is tracked in your account, visible to you from your computer or smartphone.

You spend from your farm credit each week according to your needs and what's in season on the farm. You can order ahead in our online CSA shop and/or come and shop in person from a full spread of veggies (and more!) -- much like you would see at the farmers' market.

For example, if you are having guests for supper in the days ahead, you may want to pick up extra salad greens or, if you have a loved one celebrating a birthday, a beautiful bouquet of fresh farm flowers might be just what you need. And if your own garden is plentiful with cucumbers but lacking in broccoli – well, you get the idea!

On Farm & Online Ordering

Our CSA takes place on our farm with three weekly ways for our CSA members to shop:

  1. Shop "market-style" during our open hours every Thursday 2pm-7pm and Friday 2pm-5pm;

  2. Pre-order online through our CSA shop and we will have your order packed and ready for pickup during our open hours – you select either Thursday or Friday pickup for that week;

  3. And new for the 2026 season, we are planning to offer “Surplus Boxes” for order with Monday pickup.

What is a Surplus Box?

As we pack up our on farm shop on Friday evening, we will box up the remaining produce into what we are calling "Surplus Boxes". Each box will contain $30 worth of produce, but cost just $15. These are mystery boxes meaning a customer does not choose what produce is included -- that's key to how this works.

After packing up on Friday evening, we will enter in our online store the total number of Surplus Boxes available. CSA members can then purchase online, using their CSA credit. Pick up for Surplus Boxes is Monday -- another key to ensuring the produce is still fresh and keeping our walk-in coolers well organized.

This is a new trial for us. Our hope is to create a win-win: for CSA members who are flexible on what produce they receive, this is a great deal in terms of value for cost. And, for the farm, it's a win to have "surplus" produce still valued while also moved along in atimely fashion from our bustling walk-in coolers.

Vegetables, Flowers, Seedlings & More

Our CSA includes vegetables, herbs and flowers — all from our farm and all harvested fresh — as well as seedlings for your garden in the spring.

We also collaborate with other local growers and producers, including their offerings in our CSA. Thanks to our partnerships, we have local watermelons in September, a bounty of storage crops in the fall, maple syrup and honey all season. When a crop is not grown by us, we let you know, sharing the details on who grew it.

Weather is always a factor in farming, but based on our previous years of experience and the benefit of our greenhouses, we anticipate our CSA season to run June through October for an estimated 22 weeks.

CSA Share Sizes

We offer 3 CSA sizes to fit your household needs:

  • Large at $600

  • Medium at $400

  • Small/Starter at $250

You spend your CSA credit as you'd like (flexibility!) but for the sake of illustration, you could think of the large share as $30/wk for 20 weeks, the medium share as roughly $20/wk over 20 weeks, and the small/starter share at $12/wk over 20 weeks.

Not sure what size is right for you?

Over our years of offering CSA, our members have spent anywhere from $225 to $2300 according to their household size, eating habits, etc. And, each year we have grown our selection by partnering with other local producers. Starting in 2025, for example, our CSA includes the option of sourdough bread and bagels. As our selection grows, our members tend to spend more of their weekly food budget with us.

To accommodate this wide range we offer members the option of “topping up” their CSA share over the course of the season by purchasing an additional CSA share or by adding credit in their account.

A few key points we want to reiterate:

  1. During our farm season, you are welcome to purchase another CSA share or add more credit to your CSA account. We call this "topping up your CSA share” and we welcome any amount, $50 or more. (And don't forget to pat yourself on the back for your healthy eating!)

  2. Should you run out of credit as the season nears its end, you can continue to shop with us using cash.

  3. Please note that your CSA credit will NOT carry over to the following year. You can look to finish any remaining balance on your account with a winter supply of storage garlic, maple syrup, etc. All CSA monies remaining at the end of the season are put towards our Local Families Initiative for the following year.
